Avon buys Silpada

Avon is the world's largest direct seller of beauty products, and it has bought Silpada Designs, a direct seller of sterling silver jewelry, for $650 million, this is it's largest buy since a least in the 90s  to complement its existing businesses. Both Avon and Silpada will benefit from joint sourcing and supply chain programs.
The purchase is Avon Chief Executive Andrea Jung's third this year, following a long absence since the company's last purchase in the 1990s. In March, Avon bought Liz Earle, primarily an online seller of natural skincare products followed with the April purchase of baby care brand Tiny Tillia.
Jewelry is part of Avon's fashion business, which represents 17% of its total last year. In comparison, the company's core beauty business generates more than 70% of its over $10 billion in sales. Avon has said it's putting more emphasis on jewelry and has said it sees the possibility to make its own jewelry brand global.  Silpada also has increased annual sales on average 27% since 2004, Vargas said.
Silpada's representatives sell its merchandise through party-plan settings, this is different from Avon, whose preferred method of selling is face to face. Its jewelry line, with an average price above $25, that is more than the cost of Avon's Jewelry. Avon said it plans to keep Silpada's existing management team and run it as a standalone business with its existing 32,000 independent sales representatives. Avon has about 6.2 million representatives.
Avon has been around forever and there is no reason to think that it will not continue to be around.  I'm sure that the management at Silpada will benefit from the experience and success of the Avon executives. Isaac Hayes - Hung Up on my Baby (Instrumental)

Few figures exerted greater influence over the music of the 1960s and 1970s than Isaac Hayes; after laying the groundwork for the Memphis soul sound through his work with Stax-Volt Records, Hayes began a highly successful solo career which predated not only the disco movement but also the evolution of rap. Hayes was born on August 20, 1942, in Covington, TN; his parents died during his infancy, and he was raised by his grandparents. After making his public debut singing in church at the age of five, he taught himself piano, organ, and saxophone before moving to Memphis to perform on the city's club circuit in a series of short-lived groups like Sir Isaac and the Doo-Dads, the Teen Tones, and Sir Calvin and His Swinging Cats. In 1962, he began his recording career, cutting sides for a variety of local labels. Two years later, Hayes began playing sax with the Mar-Keys, which resulted in the beginning of his long association with Stax Records. After playing on several sessions for Otis Redding, Hayes was tapped to play keyboards in the Stax house band, and eventually established a partnership with songwriter David Porter. Under the name the Soul Children, the Hayes-Porter duo composed some 200 songs, reeling off a string of hits for Stax luminaries like Sam & Dave (the brilliant "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby," "Soul Man," and "Hold on, I'm Comin'"), Carla Thomas ("BABY"), and Johnnie Taylor ("I Got to Love Somebody's Baby," "I Had a Dream"). Eastern Plaza was established in 1990 on the famous Sonargoan Road. This was the first multi-storied ultra modern shopping center to be built in Dhaka City. Eastern Plaza has not lost its importance for the middleclass customers despite the building of many more attractive shopping malls throughout Dhaka, including its immediate neighbours, Mutaleb Plaza and Nahar Computer Complex. The area is still known as the Eastern Plaza zone. There are 98 shops on each floor of the five-storied Eastern Plaza building. Each floor is used for a specific product category. On the ground floor cosmetics, crockery and gift items are available. The 1st floor is filled with shops selling saris (Bangladeshi women's dress) and fashion products, including the exotic Jamdani sari and Tater sari as well as modern dress apparel. The 2nd floor is famous for shirts, pants, shalwar kameez, baby wear and toys. The 3rd floor is well known for jewelry and shoe shops and the top floor for the cheap software, DVDs, cell phones, and is favoured by the young for shopping as well as a meeting area. This market opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 9:00 PM. Friday is the weekly holiday of Eastern Plaza.
